Have you thought about starting a Google Ads campaign, but not sure if it’s right for you, or even where to start? Let me break down the basics of a campaign here for you, and show you why your business would benefit from them.

Starting a Google Ad campaign can be a very complicated and daunting prospect to many. It’s true that there are lots of variables that go into making a successful campaign, and it’s easy to make lots of mistakes. See these blog posts to make sure your campaign isn’t making any big boo-boos!

However, the benefits of Google Ads far outweigh the steep learning curve that they require (alternatively you could outsource the creation and management of your Google Ads campaigns to me!). Google advertising is a fantastic way of building your business very quickly.

When a user makes a search on Google, search results will appear in the centre of the screen and on often on the side (most often these will be shopping ads. They don’t always show). These are the paid results – below you can see an example of both search ads (at the top), and shopping ads (on the side). These advertisers only pay when someone clicks on their advert.

So what are the top benefits of Google Ads?

Immediate Results

One of the key benefits of Google Ads is that is can start driving new traffic to your website from day one. Unlike investing in SEO (Search Engine Optimisation – which you should be doing at the same time), which can take months for good results to start showing, Google Ads can start driving traffic to your site immediately. For new businesses or new products/services, this can be a vital part in the success or failure of the launch.

Total Control Over Everything

Google Ads are entirely customisable – you can select the keywords you want to target, what keywords you don’t want to trigger an ad (such as cheap, free etc), what message you want in your adverts, what webpage you want to take people to and more.

You can also dictate when your adverts show – so if you only want your ad’s showing during the 9-5 working week that’s fine – you can switch off the weekend and out-of-hours advertising.

Financial Control

One of the biggest benefits of Google Ads is the control over how much you spend. You control how much you’re willing to pay for each click and you set a daily budget. So you’ll never spend more than you want. For your important keywords, you can decide to bid as much as you can afford, and for other keywords, you can lower your bid.

After a while, you can start to manage your bids to really make the most of your budget. There is no minimum (or maximum) amount you can decide to spend each day.

Amazing Reports and Intelligence

Google provides an amazing amount of data relating to almost every part of your advertising campaign. In fact this is maybe one of the drawbacks for beginners – it can be a little overwhelming!

But without this data you’ll never be able to understand what is and what isn’t working. The data Google gives you will help you understand the keywords that are providing the most traffic and conversions (be it sales or enquiries), what adverts generate the most clicks, what landing pages are most effective, what position generates the most clicks and more.

Linked up to your Google Analytics account means that there’s very little you won’t know about your campaign.

As I’ve said, although Google Ads is pretty user friendly, it can be daunting for anyone who wants to embark on online advertising for the first time, or for those who don’t have time to really educate themselves about the process.

For those people, I offer a complete managed Google Ads service.
